Big News: Forest Lakes Boulevard Expansion

Pinellas County is moving forward with plans to widen Forest Lakes Boulevard from two lanes to four between SR-580 and Tampa Road - a much-needed improvement aimed at easing congestion around one of Oldsmar’s busiest corridors.

If you’ve driven this stretch during rush hour, you already know… this has been a long time coming.

Key Improvements

  • Roadway Capacity: Widening the stretch between SR-580 and Tampa Road (SR-584) to four lanes to reduce heavy rush-hour congestion.

  • Safety Features: Adding a 15-foot dual center turn lane to help drivers safely exit the main flow of traffic.

  • Pedestrian & Bike Access:

    1. A new 10-foot wide multi-use trail on the west side of the road.

    2. 6-foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.

    3. Dedicated 5-foot bike lanes.

      Project Timeline

As of April 2026, the project is in its active design and preparation phase:

      • Preliminary Study: Completed in February 2024.

      • Design Phase: Currently underway, expected to run through Fall 2026.

      • Right-of-Way Acquisition: Scheduled to begin in early 2025 to secure the land needed for the extra lanes.

      • Construction: Anticipated to start in Summer 2028 and wrap up by Spring 2029.
